TEGAN & SARA are rockin', guitar tearing twins from Calgary. They strum, hum, sing, shout, pluck, pick and poke jokes. They draw their audience in with their between song chatter, candid lyrics & in your face guitar playing style. They are down to earth & up to a brand spanking new album "This Business of Art" which will be released on Neil Young's record label, Vapor Records, on July 18/00 (& made available in stores all over N.A.). It was recorded in two weeks and successfully captures the energy and charisma of their live performances. Building upon a skeleton of driving but spare instrumentation, the addition of drums and bass, coupled with a creative use of effects, have given fullness and maturity to their emerging sound. The music ranges from fast and furious to tastefully understated. It is rhythmic, melodic, and powerful. Whatever the beat, it is very clear that they have something to say, and do! Initially, Tegan and Sara introduced themselves back in the spring of '98, winning Calgary's Garage Warz contest with the highest score in the event's history. This quickly sparked intense coverage by local and national media. Within two years they played shows with Hayden, Paula Cole, Juliana Hatfield, Kinnie Starr, and the Lilith Fair tour, before signing with Vapor Records in April of 2000. But that is the recent past. They have actually spent the better part of the last ten years playing together and developing a sound. Originally inspired by their parents' love of music, they began playing piano at age 8. By their mid-teens they were hashing it out in punk bands and then grew out of their teen angst stage and began writing and performing acoustically. Their Tour 2000 will have them in U.S. over the summer & Canada in the fall. Watch out for these two. They are up and coming! |
