Tegan and Sara
So Jealous
Superclose Music/Universal

Twin sisses Tegan (based in Van) and Sara (here in Montreal) pulled off a nifty trick on this, their follow-up to 2002's also quite good If It Was You: They somehow squeezed out from under presumed big production pressure, and instead of becoming the next Nelly Furtado(s), took a step back and ripped off a chippy little rock record that the holier-than-hip could get caught playing and not feel completely dis-street-credited. If you care about that sort of thing. The keys and Moog - some of which was provided by former Weezer/Rentals player Matt Sharp - add a slightly retro effect common to the current crop of indie pop upstarts, and which the duo execute exceedingly well. With the exception of the title track - actually the only song I didn't like - this is an inviting and engaging effort with a lot of walk.
